Ross O’Hea began his musical education at the age of 8, undertaking musicianship and theory lessons in the Cork School of Music’s satellite school in Mayfield Community College. He first began trumpet lessons at the age of 11 with Ruairi Dineen in the Cork V.E.C. School of Music before subsequently studying under Vivienne Johnston during his time on the BMus, specialising in trumpet performance, in the C.I.T. Cork School of Music, obtaining a first class honours result in the process.
Upon entering the CITCSM to study an MA in Performance, Ross resumed his studies with Vivienne Johnston and began further study with Pam Steiner of Artemis Brass, Belfast. During his study, Ross has also taken part in master classes with noted pedagogue Kristian Steenstrup, studio musician Mike Lovatt, and international soloist Reinhold Freidrich.
As a performing musician, Ross has performed with multiple ensembles. Orchestrally, he has performed with the Cork Opera House Orchestra, Cork V.E.C. Senior Symphony, Cork City Music College Senior Symphony, City of Cork Symphony, Cork Fleischmann Symphony, and Cork Concert Orchestra. In the field of wind band music, Ross has performed with the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, Irish Youth Brass Ensemble, Cork Philharmonic Winds and the CSM Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Ross has also featured as a pit musician for musical theatre work, performing on productions for C.I.T. Musical Society, Cork City Musical Society, and Killarney Musical Society.
Ross also has extensive teaching experience and balances a busy teaching and performing career with conducting both the Gleneagle Concert Band and the Blarney Brass and Reed Band.
He is looking forward to teaching trumpet and trombone at Musica Fusion.
