David is a professional musician and music educator with extensive experience teaching and performing at local, national and international level. Following the completion of his masters in Ethnomusicology at the University of Limerick in 2003, David returned to Cork to begin teaching drums and percussion at the Togher Music School, where he remained a valued member of staff at the school for 17 years. In 2019, David became the schools Director of Music, overseeing a teaching staff of 12 and taking on the responsibilities of running the music school.
David has taught, prepared, and advised students in performance and theory with several music examination boards including Trinity College London, Rockschool and the ABRSM. He teaches grades from initial to grade 8, and has prepared students for Performance Diplomas in drum kit with Trinity College London. David’s lessons are specifically tailored to the requirements of each student, taking into account their ability and experience. He teaches main stream learners, as well as those with special needs and learning difficulties. As a music mentor he always strives to help his students reach their full potential.
David has taught snare, drum kit, timpani, xylophone and music theory in a number of schools and organisations across Cork city and County, including Blarney Street CBS, Scoil Iosagain, the Barrack Street Band, the Togher Music Project and Musica Fusion. He has also coordinated and project managed numerous music workshops and summer camps for individuals and groups across the wider Cork area. This is Davids second year at Musica Fusion and he is looking forward to another wonderful year!
