Cello and Piano

Alina Obreja began her music studies with classical piano at the age of six in Chisinau, Moldova. After moving to Ireland, she took up the cello at the age of thirteen with Sonja Cadogan in Portlaoise. In the space of four years, she completed the RIAM grades- each with distinction and won the RIAM High Achievers Award. At the moment, Alina is continuing her undergraduate studies in Cork School of Music, specialising in cello performance with Christopher Marwood.

Alina has been part of many ensembles, including the Laois School of Music Orchestra, Midlands Youth Orchestra and Cork Symphony Orchestra, each of the these leading and co-leading the section. Additionally, she was a member of the third-level “Thalia String Quartet” performing as part of the Vanbrugh and Friends Gala Fundraising Concert and “Music at Midday” Crawford Art Gallery lunchtime concerts. Most of all, Alina enjoys playing music with people, participating in various chamber projects such as Sligo International Festival of Chamber Music and ConCorda.  She is very excited to meet the wonderful music students at Musica Fusion!
