Kirsten started playing violin at the age of five in Limerick School of Music under the tutelage of Ann O’Connor-Murphy. She later began piano lessons at the age of eleven with Karen McCarthy and passed through the grades very quickly by taking two ABRSM exams per year. Whilst studying under Ann, she won the Musicianship Cup Grade 8 for the 2017/18 year for the highest marks in scales, aural skills and sight-reading; the Shanahan Cup for the highest distinction in any Grade 8 Instrument and won highest mark for Grade 8 Violin examination in the year 2017/8. Under her studies with Karen McCarthy, she placed 1st for the U16 in the 2016 Senior Piano Recital at the Féile Luimnigh. Kirsten currently studies with Eithne Willis at MTU Cork School of Music and was a prize winner in the Senior Violin Perpetual Cup at the Feis Maitiú in 2020. She also studies piano accompaniment with Frances Kelleher. Having a great interest in chamber music, Kirsten has participated in multiple chamber music courses around the country, including Dublin Youth Orchestra, Ceol na Mara, Summer Music on the Shannon and ConCorda. Kirsten has a keen interest in music education and psychology and studied pedagogy and developmental psychology with Dr. Leslie-Gail Ellis and Ann Barry respectively at MTU Cork School of Music.
